Before kids ever learn the definition of the word “adjective”, they use adjectives all the time. “Big” “small” “red” “blue” and so many more.

But as they begin to study the English language in more depth, they must learn what is meant by the term “adjective” and must also be able to identify which words are adjectives, and even come up with their own examples.

This is an excellent worksheet for introducing the idea of adjectives for the first time to young kids. It’s very colorful and engaging with nice pictures.

2) Pick The Right Adjective Worksheet
This is also a great worksheet for young kids. It features 10 different pictures in two columns alongside a lined blank space and the noun that names what is in the picture. These pictures are in full color and easily recognizable.
And at the top of the sheet there’s a box featuring 10 different well known and familiar adjectives. The child is then tasked with writing the corresponding adjective from the choices in the box to the right of the picture and to the left of the noun.

3) Adjective Board Game Printable
What could be a more engaging way of teaching adjectives than with a board game? This colorful worksheet with pictures of cute cartoon characters can be used as a game board.
Kids take turns rolling a die and moving around a board. When they land on a square which features a specified adjective and matching picture, the child is tasked with saying a sentence that uses that adjective.
Kids can play this game in teams and they gain points as they go along. The team with the most points at the end wins.

10) Comparative And Superlative Worksheets
For those students who already have a good understanding of what makes a word an adjective, they can take the exercise a step further with worksheets like this one aimed at third graders, which explain what is meant by comparative and superlative adjectives.
Students are given 5 sentences with blank spaces to fill in. They are told which is the relevant adjective for each sentence, and the student is to supply the corresponding comparative and superlative adjective.

Crossword puzzles are an engaging, hands-on way to build and get used to new vocabulary words and practice their spelling.

This is an excellent adjectives worksheet for 6th through to 8th grade students, because it builds on what they already know about adjectives, and expands on it.
The top half of the worksheet explains what is required of the student, and on the lower half of the worksheet, there are 4 columns.
Heading each of these columns is a common adjective. Then the student is tasked with coming up with alternative, and/or more specific or descriptive adjectives.

14) Commas With Coordinate Adjectives Worksheet
More often than not, you can use more than one adjective to describe something, and that’s where coordinate adjectives come in, listing one adjective after another to provide a fuller description of something or someone.
This worksheet explains what coordinate adjectives are and how you are meant to place commas after each one in a sentence.
Then there’s a list of 12 sentences and the students are tasked with placing commas after every coordinate adjective. Simple but important. It’s aimed at 7th graders.

15) Fact & Opinion Adjectives Worksheet
It’s very important that kids learn the difference between an opinion and a fact. And a key way to differentiate between the two is by looking at the adjectives used in a sentence or phrase. And that’s where worksheets like this one come in.
At the top of the worksheet is a bank of opinion and fact adjectives. Then there’s a series of 10 statements, and the student is tasked with labeling each statement as either a fact or an opinion.
Then the student completes a series of 5 sentences, using adjectives, and then indicates whether the resulting statement is a fact or an opinion.
